Analyzing Customer Sales

In this project, our client asked for an interactive dashboard to provide an analysis on customer sales. We built this dashboard in Power BI for easy consumption based on the client already currently having access to Power BI based on their tech stack.

Project Overview

Context

As part of this project, we were contacted by a client to analyze customer data over a 3-year period. The data provided started in 2014 and continued into 2016. The client has not expanded their product offerings since this data was collected. They are looking to expand product offerings and discontinue product offerings as well as look to discontinue selling in certain geographical locations. This analysis will allow them to better understand their customers and how they perform in key areas.

Actions

For this deliverable, we provided a Power BI dashboard with visuals representing the key requirements. Those requirements were:

  • Provide customer analysis on cumulative sales
  • Provide customer analysis on sales and profits based on geographical locations
  • Provide customer analysis on profit margins based on date
  • Provide sales comparisons by product by year
  • Provide profit analysis for this year vs the previous year

Results & Discussion

Based on our observations, we can provide the following insights for customers based on the sales data provided:

Total Profits:

  • Stockholm(Highest): $43,313 total profits
  • Kiev(Lowest): $125.63 total profits

Profit Margin:

  • Athens(Highest): 60% based on $106,235 in total sales
  • Valencia(Lowest): 15% based on $44,220 in total sales

Product Sales:

  • Product 7(Highest): $19,516,590 based on 8,425 items sold
  • Product 4(Lowest): $2,164,615 based on 1,022 items sold

Data Overview & Preparation

The client provided us with the necessary file and minimal manipulation was needed. There was some data cleansing that was required which included a clean up of inconsistent formatting of column values.
